    Description

This is a -VERY RARE- made in Germany, circa 1914 Louis Amberg "Brown/Black Newborn Baby" in it's original Christening Cap and Gown. I have not been able to locate another like it. This is a beautifully preserved early twentieth century "BISQUE head and hand" 13" doll. The 100 year old cap and yellow gown are in very good condition and are trimmed with white lace and blue ribbon. This Doll like most Amberg Newborn 13" dolls is fitted with a non working crier. It seems almost impossible to find one still working today. This Newborn has a stuffed cloth body with bent knee legs, smooth black painted hair, bright blue glass sleep eyes that work well and painted lashes and lips. The bisque hands are open and have great form. The doll's face has kept it's rich patina without fade but does have a few visable hairline surface cracks (see Pics). It is difficult for me to tell but there may have been a repair. I can't see any evidence of repaint but even so, the age and rarity of color and condition would still make this a very valuable piece. The "Newborn Baby" was designed for Amberg by the famous early twentieth century sculptor Jeno Juszko. Many collectors see this model as a possible inspiration for the Putnam Bye-Lo baby dolls of the 1920's. I am no authority on Amberg or any other brand doll. Please feel free to ask questions.
