    Description

    Vintage German Stein
    Rein Zinn Pewter Lid
    Colorful Design of Hammer Wagon
    For a Peasant Wedding
    For Your Stein Collection
    Details
    Description:
A beautiful and very colorful German Stein with a pewter lid. The lid has a thumb piece in the shape of a flattened ball with a finial on top to open and close it. The lid is Marked Rein Zinn, the famous German maker of pewter implements. The exterior of the stein is decorated with a very colorful transfer image depicting a woman on top of a wagon filled with house hold items heading into a village and being greeted by a well dressed man raising his hat and holding flowers in his hand. There is also a man with a mustache walking next to a cow with several children next to him walking behind the wagon. The mug has the words "Bauernhochzeit" which means "Peasant Wedding" at the bottom edge below the wagon and the words "Der Hammerwagen" or the "Hammer Wagon" at the bottom edge below the man, children and cow. Based on the inscription one can deduce that the woman is the bride, the man with the cow is her father and the man greeting her is the groom. The sky above the scenes is orange and there is mountains and trees in the horizon and background. The village where the wagon is heading has homes and a high steeple. There is also what looks like a lot of people on the streets of the village, I guess they are getting ready for the wedding. The stein is of white ceramic as background. It has an applied handle and the lid's hinge is affixed to the top of the handle. The round bottom of the stein is unmarked. Please carefully review the photos as they are part and parcel of our description.
    Date:
    Mid to late 1900s.
    Origin:
    Germany
    Size:
Measures 3 7/8" diameter at the base, 3 1/2" diameter on top, ~5 1/2" at its widest including the handle and is 7 1/4" high to the top of the thumb piece for the lid.
    Maker:
    Unknown
    Marks:
The bottom of the stein is unmarked as to the maker's name. However, the inside of the lid is marked "Rein Zinn", which we assume is the maker of the pewter lid, but we are not certain that they made the stein itself. There is also the letter "H" stamped on the hinge (see the last photo), not certain what that is.
